4-day Private journey from Fes to Marrakech

Day 1: Fes ⇢ Ifrane ⇢ Middle Atlas Mountains ⇢ Ziz Valley ⇢ Merzouga

Your 4-day desert journey from Fes to Marrakech begins with a morning pick-up from your hotel or riad in Fes. Leaving the city behind, the first stop is the charming town of Ifrane, where you will have around 15 minutes to stretch your legs and perhaps enjoy a coffee before continuing the trip.

The route then leads inzo the cedar forests of Azrou in the Middle Atlas Mountains, a peaceful area where you may spot the famous Barbary macaques in their natural habitat.

From here, the drive continues toward Merzouga via Midelt, passing through the scenic Ziz Valley, well known for its vast palm groves and impressive landscapes. By the afternoon, you will reach Merzouga and settle into a lovely riad overlooking the golden dunes that surround the town.

Day 2: Full-Day Exploration of the Merzouga Desert

Begin the day with a delicious breakfast at your riad before heading out to discover the Merzouga region. The first stop is the small village of Khamlia, where you can listen to traditional Gnawa music performed by local musicians whose heritage traces back to sub-Saharan Africa.

Next, you will venture off-road to M’Fis, an abandoned settlement once known for its Galena mines, a mineral historically used to produce mascara.

Later, you will visit a nomadic family living behind the dunes of Erg Chebbi near the border. While enjoying a cup of tea inside their traditional Berber tent, you will learn about their unique lifestyle and how they continue to live in the desert far from modern cities.

In the afternoon, prepare for a memorable camel trek across the towering dunes of Merzouga toward your desert camp. Along the way, you will pause on a high dune to try sandboarding while watching a beautiful sunset over the Sahara.

After dinner at the camp, relax beside the campfire beneath a sky full of stars while the staff play traditional drums and happily show you how to join in. Spend the night enjoying the magical atmosphere of the desert.

Day 3: Merzouga ⇢ Rissani ⇢ Erfoud ⇢ Tinghir ⇢ Todra Gorge ⇢ Dades Gorge

An early wake-up is recommended this morning so you can admire a beautiful sunrise over the dunes. Afterward, enjoy breakfast at your desert camp before continuing your journey.

Today’s drive takes you through several fascinating places including Rissani, Erfoud, Tinghir, and the spectacular Todra Gorge on the way to Dades Gorge. If your visit coincides with market day in Rissani (Sunday, Tuesday, or Thursday), you will have the option to explore the lively traditional market. It’s an excellent opportunity to experience local culture and discover handmade crafts, aromatic spices, and authentic street food.

During the journey there will be multiple stops for photos and chances to learn more about the traditions and daily life of the local communities.

In the afternoon, arrive in Dades Gorge where you will check into your hotel. Enjoy dinner and spend the night in comfortable accommodation.

Day 4: Dades Gorge ⇢ Ouarzazate ⇢ Ait Ben Haddou ⇢ High Atlas Mountains ⇢ Marrakech

After breakfast at your hotel, you will have time to explore the surrounding area before continuing the journey. Travel along the famous “Road of 1000 Kasbahs” toward Ouarzazate, where you may stop to visit the renowned Atlas Studios or take photos from outside.

Next, visit the UNESCO World Heritage site of Ait Ben Haddou, one of Morocco’s most famous kasbahs. This remarkable fortress village has served as the filming location for well-known productions such as Gladiator, Prince of Persia, and the TV series Game of Thrones.

After lunch, the journey continues toward Marrakech as you cross the spectacular High Atlas Mountains. Along the way, you will pass through picturesque Berber villages and make several stops to admire the scenery.

By the end of the day, your 4-day adventure from Fes to Marrakech concludes with drop-off at your accommodation in Marrakech, leaving you with unforgettable memories of Morocco’s desert landscapes.
