This 5-day journey from Marrakech to Fes is an immersive road trip through the most captivating landscapes and cultural treasures Morocco has to offer. From the snow-dusted peaks of the High Atlas Mountains to the UNESCO-listed fortress of Aït Ben Haddou — a backdrop to Gladiator and Game of Thrones — the route winds through the cinematic Ouarzazate, the lush palm oasis of Skoura, the fragrant Rose Valley of Kelaat M’Gouna, and the dramatic rock formations of Dades Valley. Every mile reveals a new layer of Morocco’s extraordinary beauty.

    Itinerary
Day 1: Marrakech ⇢ High Atlas Mountains ⇢ Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah ⇢ Ouarzazate

Your 5-day journey from Marrakech to Fes begins with a morning pickup from your hotel or riad. Travel southeast as you are treated to breathtaking views of the High Atlas Mountains, stopping at scenic points along the way. Explore the historic Telouet Kasbah, once the stronghold of the El Glaoui family, famously known as the Palace of Glaoui.

Arriving at Ait Ben Haddou around noon, enjoy an optional lunch before exploring the legendary Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah, a UNESCO World Heritage site that has appeared in films such as The Mummy, Gladiator, and Game of Thrones. Continue to Ouarzazate, often called the Hollywood of Africa, home to the world-famous Atlas Studios. You can explore the studio sets or visit the Taourirt Kasbah, another impressive El Glaoui family fortress. The day concludes with a transfer to your hotel, dinner, and an overnight stay.

    Day 2: Ouarzazate ⇢ Skoura ⇢ Kelaat M’Gouna ⇢ Bou Tharar ⇢ Dades Valley

After breakfast at your hotel, depart for Skoura, a verdant oasis spanning over 4,000 hectares of palm trees, historically a key stop for camel caravans. Visit the remarkable Amridil Kasbah and learn about life inside its walls over 300 years ago.

Next, travel to Kelaat M’Gouna, home of the famous Rose Valley. If visiting in spring, enjoy the spectacular sight of blooming roses. Continue through traditional Berber villages to Bou Tharar, then embark on an off-road adventure to reach Dades Valley. Stop at a Nomadic Berber family living in a mountain cave to experience their lifestyle and share a cup of tea. Upon arrival in Dades Valley, check into your hotel, enjoy a leisurely walk or a guided hike through the Monkey Fingers Canyon, then relax with dinner and overnight accommodation.

Day 3: Dades Valley ⇢ Todra Gorge ⇢ Merzouga Desert

Following breakfast, journey toward the Merzouga desert, stopping to admire the dramatic Todra Gorge and the panoramic views of Tinghir oasis.

Arrive in Merzouga for an authentic camel ride through the golden dunes, witnessing a spectacular sunset. Upon reaching your luxury desert camp, enjoy a warm welcome with tea and settle into your private tent. After dinner, gather around the campfire to experience traditional Berber music under the star-studded desert sky.

    Day 4: Merzouga Desert Exploration

Rise early to catch the stunning sunrise over the Erg Chebbi dunes, followed by breakfast. Begin the day with a visit to Khamlia, a village renowned for its unique Gnawa music. Continue off-road to M’Fis, an abandoned village known for its Galena mines.

Experience the nomadic lifestyle with a visit to a local family near the dunes, enjoying Berber hospitality and insights into their traditional way of life. After lunch, relax at a riad with views of Erg Chebbi, swim, or stroll to the dunes for another unforgettable sunset. Guests have the option to spend an additional night at the camp if preferred.

Day 5: Merzouga Desert ⇢ Ziz Valley ⇢ Ifrane ⇢ Fes

Wake early to witness one last magical sunrise over the Erg Chebbi dunes, followed by a hearty breakfast. Depart for Fes, stopping along the way at the scenic Ziz Valley, the cedar forest near Azrou where Barbary monkeys roam, and the picturesque town of Ifrane, known as Morocco’s Switzerland.

Arrive in Fes by late afternoon, where your guide will drop you off at the nearest point to your hotel or riad, concluding your immersive 5-day Marrakech to Fes tour.
