Here, we’ll discover the city’s historic medina walls, the impressive Bab el-Mansour gate, and the Moulay Ismail shrine. In the late afternoon, we drive to Fes for dinner and an overnight stay.
Today we explore Fes, Morocco’s oldest imperial city. Our tour begins at the Royal Palace gates, followed by a visit to the historic Mellah, Morocco’s first Jewish quarter from the 16th century. Highlights include the Al Qaraouine University, the famous Tanneries, the Attarine Museum, and the Moulay Idriss mausoleum. After lunch, we visit various artisan cooperatives and enjoy a panoramic view of the entire Medina of Fes. Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel.
We depart Fes and drive through the Middle Atlas Mountains, stopping in Ifrane, often called the “Switzerland of Africa.” Next, we visit Azrou and its cedar forest, home to Berber apes in the wild. Continuing through the Tiz Ntalghamt Mountain Pass and the scenic Ziz Valley, we stop for photos and mint tea before reaching Midelt. From here, we journey to Merzouga and arrive at our desert campsite for the night.
After breakfast at a local hotel, we set off toward Ouarzazate, visiting Berber villages along the way. We explore the spectacular Todra Gorge and continue to the Dades Gorges, where we check in at a local hotel for dinner and overnight stay.
After breakfast, we travel along the “Route of a Thousand Kasbahs,” stopping at Kalaat Mgouna, the heart of the Valley of Roses, famous for its annual Rose Festival. We then visit the UNESCO World Heritage site of Ait Ben Haddou, known for its striking kasbah and as a filming location for Lawrence of Arabia, Gladiator, and Game of Thrones.
We cross the Tizi-n-Tichka Mountain Pass toward Marrakech and continue to the Atlantic coast to reach Essaouira, the “Pearl of the Atlantic.” After checking in at a local Riad, we watch the sunset from the historic Murallas walls. Dinner features fresh seafood, followed by an evening stroll through Essaouira’s peaceful streets.
Explore the ancient city of Mogador, established by the Portuguese, with its blue-and-white medina, long beaches, and historic citadel walls. Overnight stay at a local Riad.
